| Описание | The Mijaci are a Serbian tribe that inhabits the landscape in the western part of today's Northern Macedonia. It is a landscape in the basin of the river Radika, a right tributary of the Black Drim, and is called the River. The inhabitants of Reka are known in other parts as Rekanci. Because the closest town is Debar, to which they administratively belonged during the Turks, they were also called Debarci.
Their customs during important holidays and festivities are identical to Serbian customs. Their wedding customs are especially interesting. They get married only on St. Peter's Day and on the day of St. Ilija. The most important role at the wedding is played by the brothers-in-law or brothers, there will be more than six of them. They are the groom's friends and relatives and as a rule they are all bachelors except the old brother-in-law who teaches the groom for the entire time of the wedding. The old brother goes with the others with a buklija and invites the guests to the wedding. The wedding usually lasts two days and is conducted very cheerfully. On the houses where the wedding is, the flag stands out and does not take off for a week. |
