Краткое описание

Описание
English: Comparison of a testparticle's trajectory in Newtonian and Schwarzschild spacetime in the strong gravitational field (r0=10rs=20GM/c²). The initial velocity in both cases is 126% of the circular orbital velocity. φ0 is the launching angle (0° is a horizontal shot, and 90° a radially upward shot). Since the metric is spherically symmetric the frame of reference can be rotated so that Φ is constant and the motion of the test-particle is confined to the r,θ-plane (or vice versa).

Equations of motion

Newton

In spherical coordinates and natural units of G=M=c=1, where lengths are measured in GM/c2 and times in GM/c3, the motion of a testparticle in the presence of a dominant mass is defined by

r¨=−1r2+r ϕ˙2 ,  ϕ¨=−2 r˙ ϕ˙r

The initial conditions are

r˙0=v0sin⁡(φ0) ,  ϕ˙0=v0r0cos⁡(φ0)

The overdot stands for the time-derivative. ϕ is the angular coordinate, φ the local elevation angle архивная копия в Wayback Machine of the test particle, and v it's velocity.

E and L, where the kinetic Ekin=v2/2 and potential Epot=−1/r component (all in units of mc2) give the total energy E=Ekin+Epot, and the angular momentum, which is given by L=v⊥ r (in units of m) where v⊥=ϕ˙ r is the transverse and v∥=r˙ the radial velocity component, are conserved quantities.

Schwarzschild

The equations of motion [1] in Schwarzschild-coordinates are

r¨=−1r2+r ϕ˙2−3 ϕ˙2 ,  ϕ¨=−2 r˙ ϕ˙r

which is except for the −3 ϕ˙2 term identical with Newton, although the radial coordinate has a different meaning (see farther below). The time dilation is

t˙=1+r˙2 r/(r−2)+r2 ϕ˙21−2/r=11−2/r1−v2

The coordinates are differentiated by the test particle's proper time τ, while t is the coordinate time of the bookkeeper at infinity. So the total coordinate time ellapsed between the proper time interval

τ0..τ1 is t=∫τ0τ1t˙dτ

The local velocity v (relative to the main mass) and the coordinate celerity are related by

ϕ˙=v⊥r 1−v2 for the input and v⊥=r˙ ϕ˙t˙ 1−2/r for the output of the transverse (⊥) and

r˙=v∥1−2/r1−v2 or the other way around v∥=r˙t˙ (1−2/r) for the radial (∥) component of motion.

The shapiro-delayed velocity v in the bookeeper's frame of reference is

v⊥=v⊥1−2/r and v∥=v∥(1−2/r)

The initial conditions in terms of the local physical velocity v are therefore

r˙0=v01−2/r0sin⁡(φ0)1−v02 ,  ϕ˙0=v0cos⁡(φ0)r01−v02

The horizontal and vertical components differ by a factor of 1−2/r

because additional to the gravitational time dilation there is also a radial length contraction of the same factor, which means that the physical distance between

r1 and r2 is not r2−r1 but ∫r1r2dr1−2/r

due to the fact that space around a mass is not euclidean, and a shell of a given diameter contains more volume when a central mass is present than in the absence of a such.

The angular momentum

L=r2 ϕ˙=v⊥ r/1−v2

in units of m and the total energy as the sum of rest-, kinetic- and potential energy

E=1+Ekin+Epot=t˙ (1−2r)=1−2/r1−v2

in units of mc2, where m is the test particle's restmass, are the constants of motion. The components of the total energy are

Ekin=11−v2−1 for the kinetic plus Epot=1−2/r−11−v2 for the potential energy plus m=1, the test particle's invariant rest mass.

The equations of motion in terms of E and L are

r˙=ξ ,  ϕ˙=Lm r2 ,  t˙=Em (1−2/r)

or, differentiated by the coordinate time t

r¯=ξ ,  ϕ¯=(1−2/r) LE r2 ,  τ¯=1/t˙

with

ξ=±E2 r4L2−(1−2r)(m2 r4L2+r2)

where in contrast to the overdot, which stands for x˙=dx/dτ, the overbar denotes x¯=dx/dt.

For massless particles like photons m/1−v2 in the formula for E and L is replaced with h f and the m in the equations of motion set to 1, with h as Planck's constant and f for the photon's frequency.
