| Описание | Achaemenid silver shekel showing a bearded melophore-dressed warrior-king kneeling on his right knee, holding a bow and a lance. Reverse side shows just a formless depression. This coin was alledgedly made in Sardis, provincial capital of Lydia, a satrapy of the Achemenid empire (Lydia was on the territory of present-day Turkey), between 500 and 450 BCE, so, during or soon after the reign of Darius I the Great. As the crown cannot be seen correctly and no inscription is seen, the king can't be identified with certainty, although the 4 crenellations of the tiara may suggest Artaxerxes II. |
